2014 BEST YEAR EVER FOR AMERICAN TOURISM TO ISRAEL 

 

2014 broke the record for the number of American tourists who visited Israel, which is considered to be a 'bucket-list' or 'must-see' destination for many American travelers. The United States is the number one source of tourism to Israel, representing 20% of the total, with more than 602,000 Americans visiting Israel last year. An additional 87,000 tourists came from Canada and Mexico, bringing the North American total to 690,000.

 

ROBBIE WILLIAMS, ONE REPUBLIC AND BACKSTREET BOYS TO ROCK TEL AVIV IN MAY

 

Three major international pop acts will be staging concerts in the Tel Aviv area this May: Robbie Williams will play at Hayarkon Park in Tel Aviv on May 2, as part of his Let Me Entertain You worldwide tour; One Republic will be giving an outdoor summer performance at Hayarkon Park on May 28 as part of their 2015 world tour; and The Backstreet Boys will play three shows at the Ra'anana Amphitheater, in the greater Tel Aviv area, on May 19, 20 and 21.

 

BEN GURION AIRPORT NAMED TO CONDÉ NAST TRAVELER'S "WORLD'S BEST AIRPORTS" LIST

 

Condé Nast Traveler magazine's Readers' Choice Awards 2014 named Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv to its "World's Best Airports" list. Ben Gurion made the list, which highlights the top 10 airports in the world, based on its air-tight security, easy navigability and varied shopping options.

THE 21ST ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL MEDITERRANEAN TOURISM MARKET

FEBRUARY 10-11, 2015

 

Tel Aviv will host the 21st Annual International Mediterranean Tourism Market (IMTM) on February 10 and 11, 2015 at the Israel Trade Fair and Convention Center. Exhibitors will include national and regional tourist offices, conference centers, hotels, spa and golf resorts, cruise lines, car rental companies, airlines, ground agents, tour operators, destination management companies, trade associations, trade publications and technology providers. IMTM 2014 hosted representatives from more than 40 countries, more than 1,225 exhibitors and approximately 21,900 visitors.

EILAT TO HOST TWO MAJOR INTERNATIONAL BIRDING EVENTS IN MARCH 2015

 

Eilat will host its ninth annual Spring Migration Festival, which will take place from March 15-22, 2015, and the second annual Champions of the Flyway Birdathon on March 25, 2014. The Spring Migration Festival offers bird watchers the opportunity to observe the awe-inspiring sight of Israel's skies filling up with more than 500 million birds, migrating northward. The weeklong festival includes day and night birding tours to all the best sites in southern Israel, many bird-related activities, presentations, talks and more. The Champions of the Flyway will welcome international teams to compete to spot the most number of bird species within 24 hours.

MOUNTAIN TO VALLEY RELAY RACE  

APRIL 29 - MAY 1, 2015

 

More than 9,000 people are expected to participate in the 2015 Mountain to Valley Relay Race, which will be held on the first full moon after Passover. This year, the event will take place April 29-May 1, 2015. The event takes place over a 24-hour period during which the 215-kilometer relay is divided into 24 sections, each one ranging from five to 14 kilometers. The race will be divided into two separate heats and will start at the foot of the 'Roaring Lion' statue in Tel-Hai. The route continues through the Northern Jordan River Valley, passing the Hula Valley Nature Reserve and the northern shores of the Sea of Galilee. The route then climbs and crosses the Lower Galilee Mountain Range, traverses the Jezreel Valley into the Mountains of Menashe and ends at Timrat, just west of Nazareth.

LAKE TLV HOSTS INTERNATIONAL WAKEBOARD COMPETITION - CWWC TOUR 4 STAR TEL AVIV INTERNATIONAL OPEN,

MAY 8-9, 2015

 

LAKE TLV will host an international wakeboard competition - the second CWWC Tour 4 Star Tel Aviv International Open - from May 8-9, 2015, with the participation of world champions. The competition will take place at LAKE TLV, Israel's leading water skiing and wakeboarding site and will be the first of four international wakeboard competitions in 2015.

ISRAEL'S DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE PHOTOGRAPHED USING INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUE TO PRESERVE IT FOR POSTERITY

 

In a joint initiative of the Israel State Archives and Israel Antiquities Authority, the Declaration of Independence was photographed using innovative technology developed especially for the Dead Sea scrolls. The photography was done in order to recreate the original appearance of the Declaration of Independence and preserve it for future generations. 

 

 

 

NEW SMARTPHONE APP HELPS ENGLISH SPEAKERS NAVIGATE TEL AVIV'S HOT SPOTS

 

A new smartphone app, DIY Tel Aviv, offers a selection of events, from art shows to indie music concerts, for English speakers who want to explore the lesser-known sides of the city. DIY Tel Aviv avoids big commercial events or places that some may consider tourist traps.  

 

ABRAHAM HOSTEL JERUSALEM VOTED AMONG TOP TEN BEST HOSTELS IN THE WORLD AND BEST HOSTEL IN ISRAEL FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR 

 

For the third consecutive year, Abraham Hostel has been rated the best place to stay in Israel for independent travelers and backpackers at the recent Hoscars awards. It also made the top ten "Best Extra Large Hostels" list. The Hoscars are the world's most prestigious hostel awards, recognizing the top hostels around the globe.The Abraham Hostel, which opened four years ago, is the only Middle Eastern hostel to make it to the global list of winners, alongside respected veteran European hostels.

BOSTON BECOMES THIRD EAST COAST CITY TO OFFER NONSTOP SERVICE TO TEL AVIV

 

EL AL Israel Airlines will begin offering nonstop service from Boston to Tel Aviv in June 2015, making Boston the third East Coast city to offer that service along with New York and Philadelphia. The 16 percent growth in the Boston-Tel Aviv market in the last three years resulted in the decision to offer nonstop service between the two cities.

 

 

WINE SPECTATOR SELECTS RECANATI WINERY'S CABERNET SAUVIGNON GALILEE FOR 2014 LIST

 

After tasting 18,000 wines from vineyards 

around the world, the editors of Wine Spectator magazine selected the Recanati Winery's Cabernet Sauvignon wine from the Upper Galilee series as one of the top 100 wines of 2014. This is the first time an Israeli wine has made it onto the prestigious list, which highlights the expert editors' top 100 picks of the year, based on quality, value and availability.

TEL AVIV'S PASTEL BRASSERIE AND BAR NAMED WORLD'S BEST DESIGNED RESTAURANT

 

Alon Baranowitz and Irene Kronenberg, the Israeli designers of Pastel Brasserie and Bar at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, have won the 2014 International Space Design Award - Idea Tops in the "Best Design of Dining Space" category. The couple is known for designing some of the hippest restaurants in Europe and their entry was among 4,000 projects from 35 countries entered in the competition in various categories. Pastel Brasserie and Bar, which opened in 2013, has a white, sculptured ceiling combined with mahogany countertops and furniture, antique wooden flooring and Art Nouveau lighting fixtures made out of crystal and gilded metal.
